[00:00.15]Spoken introduction on An Evening Wasted With Tom Lehrer:
[00:01.47]The outpatients are out in force tonight I see good Now
[00:13.44]I'm sure you're all aware that this week is National Gall
[00:16.98]Bladder Week and so as sort of an educational feature at
[00:25.11]This point I thought I would acquaint you with some of the
[00:26.94]Results of my recent researches into the career of the late
[00:29.40]Doctor Samuel Gall inventor of the gall bladder which
[00:37.77]Certainly ranks as one of the more important technological
[00:40.17]Advances since the invention of the joy buzzer and the dribble
[00:44.19]Glass
[00:50.13]Dr Gall's faith in his invention was so dramatically vindicated
[00:53.28]Last year as you no doubt recall when for the first time
[00:56.55]In history in a nationwide poll the gall bladder was voted
[01:00.21]Among the top ten organs
[01:11.49]His educational career began interestingly enough in
[01:15.03]Agricultural school where he majored in animal husbandry
[01:18.45]Until they caught him at it one day whereupon he switched
[01:40.05]To the field of medicine in which field he also won renown as
[01:43.62]The inventor of gargling which prior to that time had been
[01:48.84]Practiced only furtively by a remote tribe in the Andes who
[01:53.13]Passed the secret down from father to son as part of their
[01:56.58]Oral tradition
[02:05.04]He soon became a specialist specializing in diseases of the
[02:09.27]Rich He was therefore able to retire at an early age
[02:24.18]The last part of which is completely irrelevant as was the
[02:28.44]Whole thing I guess except it's a rather sneaky way of
[02:30.90]Getting into this next type of popular song which is one
[02:33.48]Of those things about that magic and romantic land south of
[02:37.32]The border
[02:46.71]When it's fiesta time in Guadalajara
[02:51.87]Then I long to be back once again
[03:00.69]In Old Mexico
[03:05.64]Where we lived for today never giving a thought to tomara
[03:12.39]To the strumming of guitars
[03:14.37]In a hundred grubby bars
[03:16.20]I would whisper:Te amo
[03:20.70]The mariachis would serenade
[03:23.40]And they would not shut up till they were paid
[03:26.82]We ate we drank and we were merry
[03:29.73]And we got typhoid and dysentery
[03:36.72]But best of all we went to the Plaza de Toros
[03:40.05]Now whenever I start feeling morose
[03:42.54]I revive by recalling that scene
[03:50.04]And names like Belmonte Domingu'in and Manolete
[03:53.58]If I live to a hundred and eighty
[03:56.10]I shall never forget what they mean
[03:57.87]Spoken
[04:06.84]For there is surely nothing more beautiful in this
[04:09.51]World than the sight of a lone man facing single handedly
[04:14.79]A half a ton of angry pot roast
[04:26.34]Out came the matador
[04:27.72]Who must have been potted or
[04:29.58]Slightly insane but who looked rather bored
[04:35.61]Then the picadors of course
[04:36.96]Each one on his horse
[04:38.55]I shouted Ol ev'ry time one was gored
[04:44.73]I cheered at the banderilleros' display
[04:47.85]As they stuck the bull in their own clever way
[04:50.70]For I hadn't had so much fun since the day
[04:54.03]My brother's dog Rover
[04:56.25]Got run over
[05:02.25]Spoken
[05:02.49]Rover was killed by a Pontiac And it was done
[05:06.75]With such grace and artistry that the witnesses awarded the
[05:10.74]Driver both ears and the tail but I digress
[05:25.17]The moment had come
[05:26.64]I swallowed my gum
[05:28.32]We knew there'd be blood on the sand pretty soon
[05:34.83]The crowd held its breath
[05:36.36]Hoping that death
[05:37.65]Would brighten an otherwise dull afternoon
[05:43.38]At last the matador did what we wanted him to
[05:47.07]He raised his sword and his aim was true
[05:49.74]In that moment of truth I suddenly knew
[05:55.29]That someone had stolen my wallet
[06:05.61]Now it's fiesta time in Akron Ohio
[06:16.35]But it's back to old Guadalajara I'm longing to go
[06:23.64]Far away from the strikes of the A F of L and C I O
[06:30.45]How I wish I could get back
[06:32.43]To the land of the wetback
[06:34.02]And forget the Alamo
[06:37.50]In Old Mexico
[06:39.42]Ol
