[00:00.00]The Box - John Denver (约翰·丹佛)
[00:00.14]Lyrics by:Kendrew Lascelles/Charles Stillwell
[00:00.29]Composed by:Kendrew Lascelles/Charles Stillwell
[00:00.44]Once upon a time in the land of Hushabye
[00:03.03]Around about the wondrous days of yore
[00:05.91]I came across a sort of box
[00:08.11]Bound up with chains and locked with locks
[00:11.02]And labeled kindly do not touch it's war
[00:16.94]Decree was issued 'round about
[00:18.63]All with a flourish and a shout
[00:20.40]And a gaily colored mascot tripping lightly on before
[00:24.11]Don't fiddle with this deadly box or break the chains or pick the locks
[00:28.29]And please don't ever play about with war
[00:33.27]Well the children understood
[00:35.36]Children happen to be good
[00:37.49]They were just as good around the time of yore
[00:40.31]They didn't try to pick the locks or break into that deadly box
[00:43.87]They never tried to play about with war
[00:47.45]Mummies didn't either
[00:48.58]Sisters aunts grannies neither
[00:50.70]Cause they were quiet and sweet and pretty in those wondrous days of yore
[00:57.12]Well very much the same as now not the ones to blame somehow
[01:02.39]For opening up that deadly box of war
[01:06.35]But someone did
[01:08.98]Someone battered in the lid
[01:11.15]And spilled the insides out across the floor
[01:14.23]A sort of bouncy bumpy ball made up of guns
[01:16.90]And flags and all the tears and horror
[01:19.07]And the death that goes with war
[01:22.50]It bounced right out
[01:23.54]And went bashing all about
[01:25.23]And bumping into everything and stored
[01:27.10]And what was sad
[01:27.90]And most unfair is that it didn't really seem to care
[01:30.72]Who much it bumped
[01:32.25]Or why or what or for
[01:37.90]It bumped the children mainly
[01:40.45]And I'll tell you this quite plainly
[01:42.81]It bumps them every day
[01:44.10]And more and more
[01:45.82]And leaves them dead and burned and dying
[01:47.92]Thousands of them sick and crying
[01:50.92]Cause when it bumps it's really very sore
[01:58.52]Now there's a way to stop the ball
[02:00.44]It isn't difficult at all
[02:01.93]All it takes is wisdom
[02:04.05]I'm absolutely sure that we could get it back into the box
[02:08.14]And bind the chains and lock the locks
[02:11.96]No one seems to want to save the children any more
[02:16.89]Well that's the way it all appears
[02:20.27]Cause it's been bouncing 'round for years and years
[02:24.24]In spite of all the wisdom whiz since those wondrous days of yore
[02:28.88]And the time they came across the box
[02:31.94]Bound up with chains and locked with locks
[02:35.66]And labeled kindly do not touch it's war
