Collaborations

In the spring of 2011, Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel embarked on a recording tour.Equipped with our portable amps and a Zoom recorder, we visited old friends and made somenew ones, from Chattanooga, TN to New Paltz, NY. The order of the collaborations on this CDis based on the timing of our visits. We had previously performed with the Shaking Ray Levisand Andrew Weathers, but it was our first time playing with Helena Espvall, Richard Lainhartand Bill Brovold. All audio was recorded via a portable recorder with the exception of therecordings with Richard, which were recorded in his studio. For more info: http://duetonline.net/collaborationsScott Burland: ThereminFrank Schultz: Lap Steel GuitarShaking Ray Levis: Ernie Paik: electric violin Evan Lipson: Paik bass Dennis Palmer: XXX analog synthesizer, vocal-telling Bob Stagner: Pearl drums and percussionAndrew Weathers: guitar, banjoRichard Lainhart: Buchla 200e & ContinuumBill Brovold: lap steel guitar, percussion, organ reedRecorded May 2011Mixing and mastering by Frank Schultz/Creative Sound LabsSpecial thanks to:All of the collaboratorsCaroline MeyersKelly CoughlinZain YousafzaiErnie PaikRob HerremaReview from Electronic Musician Magazine (October 2013 issue)Culled from a 2011 tour, this CD documents improvisational meetings between Scott Burland (Theremin) and Frank Schultz (Lap Steel) and a host of outstanding musicians - the Shaking Ray Levis, Richard Lainhart, Helena Espvall, Bill Brovold and Andrew Weathers. Sometimes challenging, often beautiful, the 19 tracks here offer nonstop surprises. Of special note are cuts with Lainhart and the SRL's Dennis Palmer, two innovative players who left the planet before this was released.
