Many Marvelous Moments

Mainly appreciated for his arrangement skills, Oliver Nelson was a fine composer and interpreter alike. This set, starting off with his show piece Stolen Moments, features his four classic albums The Blues & the Abstract Truth, Screamin' the Blues, Soul Battle, and Taking Care of Business. Roy Haynes joins Nelson on all four albums, other helping hands include Bill Evans, Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, King Curtis, Jimmy Forrest, and Paul Chambers. Although these albums sound like big band recordings, it is notable that the combos were “just” quintets to septets.
